It has been quite some time since we’ve seen Brandin Cooks. The veteran wideout last played in Week 4 for what now feels like a very different Cowboys team. Cooks was then placed on the IR due to an infection in his right knee. He’s since been joined on that list by many other Dallas players — most notably starting quarterback Dak Prescott.
The Cowboys have opened up Cooks’ 21-day practice window and Mike McCarthy stated on Tuesday that there’s a chance that the wideout suits up this weekend against the Commanders. Still, it’s currently hard to get too excited about any Dallas asset that isn’t CeeDee Lamb.
With Cooper Rush primarily under center, the Cowboys have averaged a paltry 204.7 passing yards over their last three contests. In the two games that Rush has started, Dallas has averaged 8.0 points. Needless to say, things have been pretty bleak and they don’t appear to be getting any better. The Cowboys have the fourth-lowest implied team total in Week 12, besting only the likes of the Titans, Browns and Panthers. Washington has also been fantastic at defending the pass when at home this season, surrendering a microscopic 5.1 yards per opponent throw.
Remember, Cooks was struggling to be fantasy relevant when Prescott was the one taking the snaps. As such, it’s unlikely that he’ll be able to have much of an impact in Dallas’ new reality. It’s not as if Jalen Tolbert and Jonathan Mingo have been tearing it up recently, right?
