Tuesday night’s NBA Cup action gives us one of the bigger regular season games on the schedule this season, as the 15-0 Cavs travel to Boston to face the defending champions. The Celtics opened up a short 3.5-point favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook, but took a majority of the money and we’ve since seen that number grow — which you can track with the betting splits on DK Network.
This matchup should dictate a good spot for Al Horford, which we’ll build around in a Same Game Parlay. Horford is of to a blistering start from downtown for the Celtics, who are far from shy when it comes to launching from beyond the arc. Horford himself is shooting 45% from deep, connecting on 2.3 per game (on five attempts).
Horford has hit multiple 3-pointers in nine of his 12 games so far this season, with two of the failures coming in games he played 22 minutes or less. The Celtics have had multiple days off leading up to this one, and in a big game with a tight point spread, I expect Horford to see above average minutes — particularly against a bigger front line line Cleveland.
Horford is fresh off knocking down five triples on Saturday night against the Raptors, giving him two or more made 3-pointers in all six of his home games this season. The Celtics generally are fine letting Horford launch away regardless of matchup, but against the Cavs, the game plan should involve bringing the bigs away from the hoop. That was the case in the playoff series between these two teams last season, when Horford hit six from downtown in the clinching Game 5.
I want to back Horford to have a big night from beyond the arc, but the -175 price tag is a bit steep. So I’ll use grabbing three or more rebounds to pull the price down to a reasonable -140. Horford is averaging 5.4 boards on the season, and pulled down at least three in all 11 games.
