Jake Ferguson ($5,800)
Dallas is desperately in need of a second offensive option. CeeDee Lamb draws the bulk of the opposition’s attention, but the other pass catchers have yet to be able to take advantage. Tight end Jake Ferguson has all the talent to make a resurgence in the second half of the season. The Wisconsin product showed flashes as a rookie before winning the starting job last season and making the Pro Bowl after a stellar season. This year, he’s on pace for a similar production, but his play has been inconsistent, and he’s failed to crack into the elite tier of players at his position.
Ferguson is a crisp route runner with an impressive catch radius. He can do more than use his large frame to box out defensive backs—the 25-year-old is a great athlete who can pluck the ball out of the sky. Cooper Rush is 5-2 as a starter, so this aerial attack can potentially turn things around. He’s yet to score a touchdown this season, so finding the endzone would dramatically help his DFS potential.
John Metchie III ($4,000)
John Metchie III is starting to become more than an incredible story. The wideout who overcame acute promyelocytic leukemia, a rare type of blood cancer, is back to making an impact on the gridiron. Last week, with most of Houston’s weapons out, Metchie III stepped up against the best team in the NFL. The youngster snagged five of his six targets for 74 yards and his first career touchdown.
He’s a shifty receiver who can play on the perimeter or in the slot. He can be a safety valve near the line of scrimmage or go to work on intermediate crossers and use his speed to fight for extra yardage. The Dallas secondary is a disaster, and the whole unit has the second-worst EPA per play in the league. Metchie III is still a rotational piece, but he is finding his stride and should get plenty of opportunity to make his mark.
