The Lions’ offense is on fire this season. They are second in the league in points per game and first in points per play. They are fifth in the league in offensive red zone touchdown percentage, scoring touchdowns on over 63% of their red zone trips. There are plenty of factors to that success including OC Ben Johnson, Jared Goff, the dynamic running back duo that Detroit has and many other pieces, but the importance of Amon-Ra St. Brown can’t be understated.
St. Brown was a breakout star last season and finished second in the NFL in receptions and third in receiving yards. He is not quite replicating those numbers, currently ranking ninth in receptions and 23rd in receiving yards. However, he has still been an integral part of this offense and has been the go-to guy for Jared Goff in big moments. He is tied for the sixth-most first-down catches in the league with 34. He also tied for second in the NFL in touchdown catches with seven. Whenever there appears to be nothing open, St. Brown finds some space for Goff to dump it to him for either a first down or a touchdown.
Remarkably, St. Brown didn’t score a touchdown in either of his first two games of the season but has scored exactly one touchdown in all seven games since then. In this game against Jacksonville, the Lions are massive favorites and in their home building, they should be able to name the score against the Mac Jones-led Jaguars team. The Jaguars’ defense is 32nd in the NFL in defensive EPA/dropback so Jared Goff should be able to pick them apart. With the amount of scoring opportunities Detroit will have, I will back Amon-Ra St. Brown to score a touchdown for the eighth straight game.
