Week 11 Start or Sit: Jauan Jennings or Ricky Pearsall?

Published:

By: Zach Thompson

The 49ers got Christian McCaffrey ($8,300) back last week and picked up their second straight win by going on the road and beating the Bucs. Both Jauan Jennings ($5,300) and Ricky Pearsall ($4,900) had solid performances in that win and have fantasy football potential in Week 11 vs. the Seahawks.

Start or sit-the case for Jauan Jennings

Jennings was limited by an ankle injury earlier this week, but it looks like he’ll be good to go against the Seahawks after practicing Friday.

Jennings led the team last week with seven catches on a team-high 11 targets and finished with 93 yards and 16.3 fantasy points. He was returning from a hip injury that kept him sidelined for two games, and he seems ready to step in and take on a large portion of the targets that used to go to Brandon Aiyuk (knee).

Jennings has averaged 14.7 fantasy points per game on the season, buoyed by an immense ceiling performance in Week 3 that resulted in 49.5 fantasy points against the Rams.

While he hasn’t come anywhere close to that production reliably, he has been plenty involved enough to be a strong WR2 option this week against the Seahawks and a very good value play in DFS contests like the NFL $2.5M Fantasy Football Millionaire [$1M to 1st], where he’s priced barely over $5,000.

Start or sit-the case for Ricky Pearsall

Pearsall also had key contributions last week both on the game-winning drive and scoring his first NFL touchdown earlier in the contest.

Pearsall has played three games since being activated from IR. He started the season with a natural injury to his left shoulder from preseason, and also sustained a gunshot wound to the other shoulder in an off-field incident.

In each of his three games, he has at least three catches and 20+ yards. He had 11.7 fantasy points and 17.3 fantasy points in the two games since Aiyuk’s injury and continues to be a key part of coach Kyle Shanahan’s plan.

Pearsall is even cheaper than Jennings and brings good upside for an option under $5,000 in DFS contests. He’s a fringe play in standard season-long leagues and brings enough upside to be worth considering as a start in most situations, especially with four teams on a bye this week.

The Bottom Line

Both 49ers receivers are good options to start this week, especially if George Kittle ($6,000) is unable to play through his questionable tag. Jennings’ target share makes him lower risk with a high ceiling, but Pearsall is more affordable.

They’ll be in a favorable matchup vs. the Seahawks, who Brock Purdy ($6,600) shredded back in Week 6 for 255 yards and three touchdowns. Seattle’s secondary is giving up the seventh-most fantasy points per game to opposing receivers. WRs have scored nine touchdowns against them in their last six games.

The 49ers are 6.5-point home favorites against the Seahawks. Jennings is a solid value at +210 to score a touchdown while Pearsall is +245. Given how many more targets Jennings has been getting, he seems like the better play in that market.
