Victor Wembanyama best prop bets for Spurs vs. Lakers

Updated:

By: Bill Yin

Victor Wembanyama put on a sophomore performances for the ages on Wednesday as he obliterated the Washington Wizards for 50 points, 24 of which were from three-point territory. The future is now. Wembanyama is an alien unicorn specimen with the ability (and green light) to launch 16 threes and make half of them while also providing DPOY-level rim protection on the other end. We’ve truly never seen anything like this.

Tonight, another elite big man rolls into Wemby’s house. Anthony Davis and the Lakers are in town; what will Wemby have in store for us tonight?

Here are some of the best Victor Wembanyama prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Friday’s matchup:

Best Victor Wembanyama Prop Bets

Points 24.5 (Over -120 / Under -110): This mark is higher than Wemby’s season-average of 22.3 PPG (even after his 50-point eruption). There are two conflicting forces here. On one hand, Wembanyama’s three-point stroke is wet right now, after drilling eight of them last game. Additionally, the Lakers have a porous defense this season despite having Anthony Davis on its roster. On the other hand, the Lakers have Anthony Davis on its roster, one of the few defenders in the association who have both the size and length to bother Wembanyama in the paint.

Wemby’s shot diet is modern and unbefitting a player of his height. Wembanyama has attempted 99 shots from beyond the arc, and 105 shots from within. He has taken 47 shots at the rim. It seems like Wembanyama, while being able to expertly alter opponents’ shots at the rim, prefers to do most of his own offensive damage from distance. You can attribute this to preference, to coaching, or perhaps even to his visible frailty. Tonight he should be dissuaded by Davis’ size and hang around the perimeter launching threes. I’m going Under.

Assists 3.5 (Over -115 / Under -115:) The Lakers have allowed 309 assists versus enemy teams this season. This puts them around the middle of the pack, and thus we don’t have much data to draw too many conclusions here. So I’ll assume an average here. Wembanyama is averaging a paltry 2.7 APG this season compared to the 3.9 he averaged last season. His career average is 3.7, right around the O/U mark given here. We could go over if we expect him to draw double teams tonight, or we could go under if we expect him to aggressively attack the basket or launch threes.

I wouldn’t fault you for going either way with this one, or just avoiding it altogether. Maybe I should’ve just skipped this section altogether, but it’s important to use logic and follow a process to make our decisions, even if that results in a no-decision.

Rebounds 11.5 (Over -105 / Under -125:) Wembanyama’s rebounding numbers haven’t changed too much since last year. He averaged 10.6 and is now averaging 10.2. He should be a nightly double-double threat, but is 11.5 too many? No, it is not.

The Lakers are averaging 40.7 rebounds per game, good for fourth-last in the league. I’d take Wemby’s over here just due to the Lakers’ trend of not being a strong rebounding team. You could also go under if you anticipate Anthony Davis giving Wemby trouble on defense, and thus limiting his minutes with foul trouble.

Threes 2.5 (Over -154 / Under +120): It’s tempting to ride the hype train off the back of his monster performance last game with eight made triples, but let’s slow down a bit. He’s shooting 34.3% on the season from beyond the arc. Last season, he shot 32.5%. His career average is two makes per game. He is not an elite three-point shooter. We also have to consider that all of his triples are effectively wide open. He’s 7’4 and is releasing at 9’9, higher than anyone else in the league.

I’m going under.
