Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul: Why the Stats Don’t Matter

I’m not much of a boxing fan, and certainly not a bettor when it comes to the sport. But Friday night provides us with a unique entertainment experience, as the 58-year-old Mike Tyson gets back in the ring for the first time professionally since 2005. His opponent will be Jake Paul, who happens to be 31 years younger.

If you guys have followed my content at all, you’ll likely agree with the following — I take betting seriously, and wager with my head, not my heart. There might be an outlier here or there, but it’s rare. This is going to be one of those times. I want to see Mike Tyson knockout Jake Paul, so I’m going to bet on it.

Of course, this isn’t going to be a full unit play, or even close to it. But in this instance I will join the public in the sense of simply betting something for fun or for entertainment value, simply because I want to see it happen. By all accounts, it seems like Iron Mike is taking this thing seriously. He says “the Devil himself” will be in the ring with him on Friday night at AT&T Stadium. I sure hope so.

Paul’s wins seem to come against fighters with no actual background in boxing. Let’s see what he can do against an absolute legend. There will be eight rounds, each lasting two minutes, and the gloves will be lighter. I think all of that favors the older Tyson. This fight will also count on Tyson’s official record, so he has motivation not to mess around with this, beyond the money.

If you’re looking for a “sharper” bet on this fight, I think going over 5.5 rounds is a pretty good bet. I’ll have plenty of action on this massive Friday night card, including action in both college football and basketball, as well as the NBA. With this, I’m just looking to have a little fun. Let’s go Iron Mike!
