The Unabated NBA team, led by industry veteran Justin Phan, currently projects the newest star Knicks acquisition Karl-Anthony Towns as questionable with a 50% chance to play tonight in a Battle of New York versus Brooklyn. Towns is battling a left knee contusion with no updates on his status from today’s Knicks shootaround.
Towns has been a beast on the year. He averages 1.44 DraftKings Points Per Minute with a 29% usage rate, 21% rebound rate and 13% assist rate. Even though Jalen Brunson certainly gets his time with his own 29.9% usage rate, Brunson has clearly deferred to Towns as a heliocentric part of this Knicks offense.
If Towns were to play tonight, Towns would project for 25.4 points, 12.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists according to Unabated’s Conditional NBA Projections. With Nic Claxton missing on Brooklyn’s side, Towns is in position to explode if he does play.
If Towns is out, he’ll create the following changes to his Knicks teammates’ stat lines according to Unabated’s Conditional NBA projections:
- Josh Hart projects for 13 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 5.4 assists (10.9 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 5.1 assists if Towns plays)
- Jalen Brunson projects for 31 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 7 assists (26.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 6.7 assists if Towns plays)
- Mikal Bridges projects for 16.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.2 assists (14.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3 assists if Towns plays)
- OG Anunoby projects for 18.9 points, 6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists (15.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists if Towns plays)
Towns’ domination so far this year opens up a ton of opportunity for his remaining teammates if he’s out. He’d also have a massive impact on the Expected Value for some of these players’ prop lines, including potentially 34.8% EV on OG Anunoby’s current over 22.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists line at DraftKings Sportsbook and 15.9% EV on Jalen Brunson’s current over 37.5 PRAs line.
Play Towns if he’s in. Play everyone else if he’s not.
