NFL Pick ‘Em Pools
These pools are easy to use and allow you to have action for the entire NFL season with just one entry fee. For season-long pools, you will go back to the pool every week and pick five games against the spread. Each correct selection is worth one point and each incorrect selection is worth zero points. For single-week pools, the same rules apply.
I will be giving out my five favorite selections and my leans for every other game on the slate every week of the regular season.
Week 11 Picks
Picks Record: 27-23 (54%)
Vikings -6.5 vs. Titans – The Vikings played as bad as they could possibly play last week, at least on offense, against the Jaguars and still won and covered the DraftKings pool line of -4.5. Their defense completely overwhelmed Mac Jones and forced him into mistakes on almost every drive, some of those mistakes being completely detrimental. The Vikings’ defense should be able to force similar mistakes out of Will Levis who has struggled all season. By EPA/play, the Vikings have the best defense in the NFL and the Titans have the 29th-ranked offense. The Vikings should totally shut them down.
On offense, the Vikings should be able to move the ball. They were pretty efficient on a down-to-down basis last week against Jacksonville but the Sam Darnold interception issues, particularly in the red zone, held them back. If Darnold can correct those mistakes, the Vikings should have no problem hanging a big number on Tennessee and covering 6.5 points.
Lions -13.5 vs. Jaguars – This is a potential demolition spot for the Lions. As I just mentioned, the Jaguars’ defense was lucky to not get demolished by the Vikings last week. Jared Goff just had his worst game of the season against the Texans and the Lions still found a way to win. At home, Goff should have a bounce-back performance and this Detroit offense should have a field day. Their offense is 6th in the NFL in EPA/play and the Jaguars’ defense is dead last in EPA/play. The Lions could score 40+ points in this game with relative ease.
The Jaguars’ offense hasn’t been very good all year but particularly with Mac Jones at quarterback, they have no shot to keep up with Detroit. Detroit’s defense, surprisingly, actually ranks higher than their offense in EPA/play, ranking 4th in the league. The Mac Jones-led Jaguars will have to throw the ball a lot and be aggressive to keep up with the Lions and that is going to go very bad for Jacksonville.
Browns +2.5 vs. Saints – The Browns are coming off of a bye week and really needed that time to get healthy. Nick Chubb had a few weeks to build himself back up after returning from injury and now this bye week gave him a chance to rest back up and he should have a big game against the Saints. New Orleans is 31st in defensive EPA/rush and Chubb should be able to wear them down and eventually break a couple of big runs. This week off also gave Jameis Winston a lot of time to develop timing with his new receivers. After losing their starting quarterback and trading their top receiver, it has been a wild season for the Cleveland offense but this break hopefully gave them time to settle in.
The Browns’ pass rush is still one of the best in the league. They should be able to put pressure on Derek Carr and force some mistakes. The Saints’ offense finally had a good performance last week for the first time in months but it was likely just a blip on the radar. In his career, Derek Carr is 29-41-1 (41%) ATS after a SU win. The Saints utilized the new coach bounce to get a win but the Browns should knock them back down in this spot.
Broncos -1.5 vs. Falcons – The Broncos should have beaten the Chiefs last week if not for a blocked field goal at the end of regulation. Bo Nix has been playing well in recent weeks and is using his arm and his legs to get the job done. Nix has struggled to outduel elite competition but against inferior or similar teams, he has done a good job of hanging around and allowing his defense to win games. As a favorite this season, Nix and the Broncos are 3-0 SU and ATS. Denver has the best defense in the league measured by EPA/play. They should be able to totally shut down the Atlanta offense and as long as Bo Nix avoids mistakes, they’ll get the win at home.
Bills -2.5 vs. Chiefs – This is arguably the most highly-anticipated matchup of the NFL regular season so far. The Chiefs are the lone undefeated team in the NFL but they have skated past teams by the skin of their teeth almost every week. Even if you have Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid, that is not sustainable for 17 games. Despite being 8-2 instead of 9-0, the Bills are playing much better football than the Chiefs. Josh Allen is playing at an MVP level and the Bills have scored 30+ points in each of their past four games.
The Chiefs have been surviving on the back of their defense most of the year but Buffalo actually has the better defense by EPA/play. Buffalo ranks 10th and Kansas City ranks 11th in that very telling metric. Offensively, Buffalo is much better, ranking 3rd in EPA/play compared to 10th for the Chiefs. Other than “it’s Mahomes” there is no reason not to back Josh Allen and the Bills to win by a field goal at home in this spot.
