The first boxing event on Netflix features “Iron” Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul in the Main Event. The event will air live on Netflix at 8:00 p.m. ET on November 15. Although this is a massive event being held at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas, the rule set is a little bit different from normal.

Check out my full preview of the Tyson vs. Paul boxing event here.

Rules for Tyson vs. Paul

Weight

This fight is being contested at heavyweight and is a professional bout sanctioned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Paul’s last fight against Mike Perry in July was at Cruiserweight, which has a weight limit of 200 pounds.

The Heavyweight division does not have a weight limit. Paul has fought at Cruiserweight during his last three contests. During Paul’s first eight fights in his boxing career, he fought at 185-190 pounds. But recently, he has continued to add weight to his frame to become a heavyweight for this contest.

Rounds and Time

Tyson vs. Paul will be an eight-round fight. Most main event and non-title fights are 10 rounds. Instead of the traditional three-minute rounds, this contest will be two-minute rounds.

Typically, exhibition bouts and women’s fights are two-minute rounds. When this fight was first announced, it was unknown whether the commission would clear Tyson for a professional fight as he is 58. But after undergoing multiple tests during fight week, doctors cleared Tyson to fight on Friday night.

In Tyson’s last fight against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020, he weighed in at 220.4 pounds. During his 20-year professional career, Tyson weighed 215-240 pounds for each fight.

Glove size

The majority of heavyweight professional fights involve athletes using 10 oz gloves. But for this fight between Tyson and Paul, they will wear 14 oz gloves.
