Entering Week 11, the Broncos are right in the thick of a crowded AFC playoff race. Unlike seasons prior, there’s confidence behind center thanks to rookie quarterback Bo Nix. While the Oregon product isn’t a finished product, he’s brought a level of playmaking through the air and on the ground that Denver fans haven’t seen in quite some time.
What’s behind Nix’s solid rookie campaign? A number of factors, chief among them Courtland Sutton. Despite offseason trade rumors, the Broncos opted to keep their top wide receiver, a decision that has paid dividends. So far, the former Pro Bowler has hauled in 42 catches for 569 receiving yards and three touchdowns. As it stands, the seven-year veteran is on pace for his best season since 2019.
For all the positives, Denver’s offense remains inconsistent. The team is currently 24th in yards (303.7) and 27th in passing yards (186.6) per game. That’s led to some disappointing performances for Sutton, such as Week 7’s zero-catch, zero-target outing against the Saints.
With that being said, should you trust Sutton going forward? For all the justified concern over the Broncos’ passing game, the answer is yes. Sutton’s position as an undisputed 1A in this offense makes him incredibly valuable, as his 77 targets are ninth in the NFL. In addition, the upcoming schedule is very wide receiver-friendly. Just one of Denver’s next six opponents ranks inside the top ten in passing yards allowed (@ Los Angeles Chargers, Week 16).
Following a solid three-game stretch, some fantasy managers might be looking to sell high on Sutton. I wouldn’t give up too much in a trade, but this is a high-floor WR2/flex option that doesn’t have the inflated price of other big name pass catchers. While it’s more alluring to deal for a player on a better offense, volume is king. Nabbing someone that’s locked in for five or more targets a game is incredibly valuable at this juncture of the season.
