There were some exciting upsets in Week 11 of college football. Here are my updated national power rankings heading into Week 12.
I will do a top-25 college football power rankings every week for the duration of the regular season. These power rankings will be based on where every team stands at the current moment, not a prediction of where these teams will be at the end of the season. The team’s ranking from the week prior will be in parenthesis next to its current ranking.
#1- Oregon (1)
The Oregon Ducks took care of business once again with a win over Maryland. They should coast to the Big Ten Championship Game and they have locked up a playoff berth barring an epic collapse.
#2- Ohio State (3)
Ohio State dominated Purdue over the weekend and has Northwestern on deck. However, the following week, it faces Indiana in a game that could determine who makes the Big Ten Championship Game.
#3- Texas (5)
Texas is once again the top-ranked team in the SEC after dominating Florida. If it wins the rest of its games, it will be in the SEC Championship Game and the College Football Playoff.
#4- Indiana (6)
Indiana took down Michigan to solidify that it is the real deal. The Hoosiers now have a bye week heading into their massive game against Ohio State.
#5- Penn State (7)
Penn State is still in the mix in the Big Ten and it is likely to win out and make the College Football Playoff.
#6- Tennessee (8)
Tennessee is quietly hanging around in the SEC race but it has a massive game against Georgia this weekend, which could determine the fate of both teams.
#7- Notre Dame (9)
Since its embarrassing loss to Northern Illinois, Notre Dame has been steamrolling its competition. However, it still has a couple of tests left against Army and USC that it needs to pass to make the Playoff.
#8- Alabama (10)
The Tide dominated LSU in what was a pseudo-playoff elimination game. They have a couple of winnable games ahead and if they take care of business, they should be in the College Football Playoff.
#9- Miami (4)
Miami finally suffered its first loss of the season against Georgia Tech after a series of close wins. However, it is still in total control of its destiny on the path to the ACC Championship Game and College Football Playoff.
#10- Ole Miss (13)
Ole Miss knocked off Georgia to keep its College Football Playoff hopes alive. It has a bye week ahead before taking on Florida and Mississippi State to close out its season.
#11- Georgia (2)
Georgia is on life support after its loss to Ole Miss. The Bulldogs take on Tennessee this weekend with their season on the line.
#12- BYU (11)
The Cougars survived another close scare to remain undefeated in the Big 12. This weekend, they face a feisty Kansas team that upset Iowa State last week.
#13- Boise State (14)
Boise State remains the favorite from the Group of Five to make the Playoff. It has a relatively easy run of games before the Mountain West Championship Game, which will be its last true test of the season.
#14- SMU (15)
SMU has a couple of interesting tests against Boston College and UVA in the next two weeks as it looks to stay ahead of Clemson in the ACC Championship Game race.
#15- Texas A&M (17)
The Aggies still feel as though they control their own destiny to the College Football Playoff with a major showdown against Texas scheduled for the last game of the season.
#16- Colorado (21)
Colorado is on fire after knocking off Texas Tech on Saturday. It controls its path to the Big 12 Championship Game after Iowa State’s loss to Kansas. However, Colorado has a couple of tough games against Utah and Kansas in the next two weeks.
#17- Clemson (18)
Clemson is still alive in the ACC race but it needs some help from SMU or Miami. It faces Pittsburgh in its final ACC game this weekend.
#18- Army (19)
Army is still undefeated and has a real shot at making the College Football Playoff if it can pull off a major upset over Notre Dame in two weeks.
#19- South Carolina (23)
South Carolina has dominated its last couple of SEC opponents, including Vanderbilt on Saturday. It has a pivotal matchup against Missouri this weekend.
#20- Washington State (20)
Washington State is flying under the radar in the Pac-2. It is unlikely to move much higher in the rankings, however, because of its weak strength of schedule.
#21- Tulane (22)
Tulane is hoping that if it beats Army in the AAC Championship Game and Boise State suffers a loss in the Mountain West Championship Game, it can steal the final College Football Playoff spot.
#22- Louisville (25)
The Cardinals had a bye week after their win over Clemson. This week they face Pittsburgh in a key ACC matchup.
#23- LSU (12)
LSU’s season is over after its blowout loss to Alabama. It has a tough road test against Florida this weekend that it needs to win to keep its season on track.
#24- Kansas State (NR)
Kansas State is back in the power rankings with Vanderbilt dropping out. It needs Colorado to lose a game and if it does, the Wildcats are back in control of their own destiny to make the College Football Playoff with a Big 12 Championship Game victory.
#25- Iowa State (16)
Iowa State suffered its second consecutive loss on Saturday against Kansas. It now needs a lot of things to bounce its way to make the Big 12 Championship Game.
