Tyus Jones OVER 19.5 Points + Assists (+100) – 1-unit

It seems this one has taken some money, as the prop moved from O18.5 (-125) to 19.5 while I was writing this up. But I still like the play at this number, and the even money price tag also helps out a bit.

Jones isn’t exactly a stat stuffer, and that’s why the Suns brought him in. Playing alongside Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, this team just needed a distributor that isn’t going to turn the ball over. That is Jones, but when thrusted into a larger role he is perfectly capable. With KD out of the lineup for this NBA Cup game on Tuesday in Utah, look for Jones to maintain a larger role in the offense.

The Jazz have a big team, but the Suns should still play some small-ball here and try to make that an advantage. They did just that on Sunday in Sacramento, although Phoenix ultimately fell short in overtime. Jones played a season-high 40 minutes in the loss (which still would’ve been a season-high without the OT run), and was far more aggressive as a scorer.

Jones attempted a season-high 14 field goals against the Kings, including 10 from downtown. With Durant off the floor, look for Jones to both have more opportunities to score and assist. Jones wound up finishing with 22 points and four assists in that one, and while he might not have quite the same game as a scorer, his assist total finished low. Jones is averaging 6.3 assists on the season, but Booker wound up with 12 in the last game.

With some extra minutes and Durant’s usage off the floor, Jones should have plenty of chances against a Utah defense that ranks 26th in the NBA in points allowed at just under 119. Something like 16 points and seven assists feels perfect reasonable here, and well exceeds the number we need. We also have the advantage of points mattering in the NBA Cup, so guys like Jones should remain in the game looking to add late scores, regardless of what the scoreboard reads.
