College Football Picks: Week 12 Best Bets Cheat Sheet

Updated:

By: Julian Edlow

Let’s breakdown some college football bets for this weekend’s games.

Houston +2 (-110) at Arizona – 1-unit (Friday)

Houston his rock bottom earlier in the season, getting shutout on consecutive weeks by Cincinnati and Iowa State. Since then, the Cougars have been improving, going 3-1 with a tough road loss to Kansas. But the Cougs earned road victories at TCU, and vs. Utah and Kansas State. That’s a pretty solid collection of wins heading into the bye.

Arizona also comes off a bye for this game, but has been trending in the opposite direction. The Wildcats’ last victory came back in September over Utah, losing five in a row to Texas Tech, BYU, Colorado, West Virginia and UCF since. Each loss has gotten a bit worse, with the 56-12 blowout at UCF sucking the life out of Arizona’s season. Houston is the better team right now and should be playing for more in this one.

UCLA at Washington -3.5 (-110) – 2-units (Friday)

Washington has been a very good team to go back and forth on, fading on the road, particularly out east, and then backing when returning home off a loss. This week, the Huskies are off getting pounded at Penn State, while UCLA is riding high off an upset win over Iowa at home.

While Iowa was down multiple quarterbacks with an already poor passing game, Washington should be able to sling the ball in this spot. The Huskies have a very balanced offense, and UCLA ranks near the bottom of the country in passing yards allowed. In a desperation spot, I like Washington to get a big home win on Friday night over a Bruins squad we’re overrating a bit right now.

Tennessee at Georgia -8.5 (-110) – 1.5-units (Saturday)

Georgia looked awful on the road at Ole Miss last week in a game it almost certainly needed to win if it wanted to play in the SEC Championship game. The Bulldogs were dominated on both sides of the ball, and the game wasn’t even as close as the 28-10 final score might indicate. Now the Dawgs are in a must-win spot at home against the Vols if they want a chance to compete for a National Championship.

After a performance like that, I’m confident that Kirby Smart will have his guys ready to go on Saturday night at home. Carson Beck went from what people thought would be a strength of this team to a clear weakness. But Smart knows how to work around this and win games pounding the ball and playing defense. Tennessee got off to a hot start to the season, but has slowed down as the season has gone on, particularly on offense. I feel the Vols are a bit overrated, and this might be too tough of a road test for them to keep the game within single digits.
