I don’t think the Chiefs are playing for an undefeated season. They’re playing to be the first team that’s ever three-peated as Super Bowl champions.
They also have at least three potential losses on their schedule, starting this week in Buffalo. They’re probably going to lose to the Broncos in Denver. Then throw in the odd Steelers game because it might not mean anything to them at that point.
Once the Chiefs lock things up and take care of business, I don’t think they have any interest in an undefeated season. They have their eyes on a much bigger prize.
I know a lot of Patriots players that were on that 2007 team. They think it’s the worst season of all time because they were unbeaten and rolling over people, yet they couldn’t get it done — 18-1 is the worst.
Much like New England, the Chiefs are a team. They don’t care how it gets done, they just want to get it done.
Bears battling Hail Mary hangover
Chicago has not scored a touchdown since that Hail Mary. That’s two games without a touchdown.
Now, Arizona is an ascending team — look what they did to the Jets. But the Patriots aren’t very good. They sacked Caleb Williams nine times on Sunday. Some of that’s on Williams, some of that’s on the offensive line.
That offensive line is not as good as they thought it would be. On top of that, Keenan Allen is a step slow, and I don’t know what’s going on with DJ Moore. Things aren’t clicking right now. But, I’m not giving up on Williams in any way shape or form.
That said, the Hail Mary hangover is real. The Bears still haven’t shook it; they can say whatever they want. They need to get past it in a hurry.
San Francisco just needs to get healthy
We saw what a difference Christian McCaffrey’s return made. If you ask anybody in football, “Who has the best roster, one through 53, when healthy?” It’s probably San Francisco.
But McCaffrey is the actuator of that offense. He makes everything else go. When McCaffrey is on the field, Deebo Samuel is better, George Kittle is better, Jauan Jennings is better. Brock Purdy is better.
When McCaffrey is on the field, you have to worry about him first and foremost. That opens opportunities for everybody else.
Don’t sleep on the Bucs
They’ve lost their top two wide receivers. They’ve lost four straight games, with three of their games coming against Baltimore, San Francisco and the undefeated Chiefs. But they fight.
Baker Mayfield stiff-arming Nick Bosa like he did was unbelievable. How was he able to do that?
You lose your top two wide receivers, it’s easy to say, “That’s it, we’re done.” The Bucs have refused to quit. I have a lot of respect for the way they’ve gone about their business.
