Payton Pritchard ($5,100)
The best sixth man in the NBA early this season has been Payton Pritchard. He’s always been a frisky option off the bench, but having the green light to be the lead creator of the second unit has unlocked a more confident and effective version of the 26-year-old reminiscent of his time as a four-year standout at the University of Oregon.
Boston has allowed Pritchard to do more than launch threes, as he can stop on a dime to rise for a mid-range jumper or use his patented left shoulder bump to score at the cup. He’s scored at least 15 points in nine of his last ten contests, with teams having no answer for the 6’1″ guard.
He’s been lethal from downtown, converting on 43% of his triples. Despite almost always being the smallest guy on the floor, Pritchard has a nose for the ball and is comfortable crashing the glass. The assist numbers have yet to take off, but he’s an underrated passer who likes distributing the rock.
Pritchard dropped an efficient 18 points in a blowout victory in his previous matchup with Atlanta. Expect a similar stat line as he continues the best stretch of his career.
Klay Thompson ($5,100)
It’ll be an emotional evening for Klay Thompson as he returns to San Francisco for the first time in an enemy uniform. After 13 years in the Bay Area, Thompson jumped ship to the Western Conference Champions, who desperately needed his shooting. The 34-year-old is shooting 35% from distance but has nailed just two of his last 13 attempts. Regardless of his recent slump, he’s getting wide-open, quality looks that will fall sooner rather than later.
Despite the magnitude of the game, Thompson should be ready to go and make his former club pay. He can get hot in a hurry and should be launching out of the gate. Thompson is due for the best game of his campaign as he puts on a vintage performance in front of the Golden State faithful.
