It’s Week 10 of his 12th season, and Zach Ertz is still on fantasy managers’ radars.
The 33-year-old has been a revelation this year in the nation’s capital, finding the fountain of youth and being a sufficient security blanket for rookie-superstar signal-caller Jayden Daniels. The veteran has made the most of his one-year contract with Washington, re-inserting himself as one of the league’s premier tight ends.
Ertz has reeled in 33 catches for 350 yards and is on pace for his best season since 2021. Injuries have derailed the former Pro Bowler’s career, but his clean bill of health and prominence as a top option underneath has rejuvenated his abilities. For a team that scores points in droves, he’s a valuable, calming presence who can help extend drives or make the perfect play at an ideal time.
Despite his recent success, Ertz is coming off a one-catch, five-yard showing against a woeful New York squad. It’s the only game of the season where he failed to record at least three receptions as he struggled to make any sort of impact. Daniels is still dealing with a nagging rib injury, and his mere 15 completions could be the main factor in Ertz’s rough outing.
His bounce-back opportunity comes against a Pittsburgh defense with the fourth-best EPA against the pass. Even though they’ve been a middle-of-the-road group against tight ends in particular, Ertz isn’t explosive enough to make them pay up the seam. With a $3,800 DFS assigned salary, he’s a budget option at best. In this situation, you’ll get what you paid for. In more traditional formats, it depends on who your other options are, but there should be more favorable starts available on waivers. I’d only recommend putting him in your lineup in deeper leagues.
Final Verdict: SIT! As great of a story as his resurgence has been, he doesn’t offer the consistency needed to be a must-start. At this point, he’s a solid-depth piece who can shine under the right circumstances. It’s best to proceed with caution and leave him on the bench this week.
