DraftKings Value Picks
Brandon Boston Jr. ($5,800)
It’s perplexing how Brandon Boston Jr. has been unable to carve out a consistent role throughout his brief NBA career. The 22-year-old graduated from the University of Kentucky Guard Factory before being selected in the second round of the 2021 Draft. He struggled to crack the Clippers rotation throughout his three-year tenure, switching between being buried on the bench or lighting up the G League.
After LA opted not to bring back his services, he signed with San Antonio before being waived right before the regular season kicked off. He eventually landed in New Orleans, where he’s been a lifeline for a franchise riddled with injuries and lacking quality bigs outside of Zion Williamson. Boston is coming off four straight games with at least ten shot attempts while playing over 30 minutes. In his most recent outing, he dropped an efficient 26 points with six boards.
Boston can easily create his offense, sporting a nifty handle, and can finish well at the rim. The outside stroke is a work in progress, but launching triples at opportune times has lessened those concerns. Brooklyn is a feisty group that plays incredibly hard but is still shaky on defense—Boston will have another chance to fill the stat sheet in an expanded role.
Ty Jerome ($3,800)
If the Most Improved Player Award didn’t go to stars who naturally elevated their game, Ty Jerome would be the runaway favorite to capture the hardware. A star at the University of Virginia, the crafty combo guard has struggled to find a home as a pro. His lack of footspeed on defense has been a concern in the past, but Jerome has transformed into a legitimate glue guy for the undefeated Cavs.
Jerome has been active as an on-ball pest and is averaging 10 points a night on nearly 58% shooting from downtown. He flies off screens and can either rise up with his knockdown jumper or cut to the basket and opt for a floater. His impact can’t be understated—he’s anchoring the second unit and is slowly earning extended playing time. A road matchup with Chicago could see Cleveland go up big early and let Jerome see extra burn when things get out of hand.
