Here are Patrick Mahomes’ current prop bet odds at DraftKings Sportsbook: o/u 234.5 passing yards, o/u 1.5 passing touchdowns and o/u 16.5 rushing yards. Mahomes is +390 to score a touchdown, +4000 to score 2+ touchdowns, and +1700 to score the first touchdown of the game.
It has been an interesting season for Patrick Mahomes. Both statistically and on tape, Mahomes has not played up to his usual standards this season. Mahomes is 14th in the league in passing yards and had just an 11-9 TD-INT ratio. However, the Chiefs still sit at 8-0 as the only undefeated team in the NFL. Mahomes has made the winning plays when it matters and the Kansas City defense has been an elite unit. This week, they face the Broncos who also have an elite defense.
Denver’s defense is third in EPA/play and third in dropback/EPA. They should make things difficult on the Chiefs and could keep this game close and lower-scoring. That could lead to Mahomes having to throw all game to keep the Chiefs ahead. The Broncos have been so good at limiting explosives that the Chiefs will probably be able to get away with the underneath passes to Travis Kelce and the running backs. That will lead to a lot of pass attempts from Patrick Mahomes which is why I am betting on him to go over his passing attempts prop of 31.5.
Mahomes has cleared this number of attempts in four out of eight games this season and in both of his past two games. In the last two weeks, Mahomes has thrown 44 and 38 attempts, 44 being his highest mark of the season. The addition of DeAndre Hopkins has certainly improved the passing game for the Chiefs and that could continue to lead to more passing attempts from Mahomes.
The Chiefs have not been explosive on offense but they have been great on early downs and third downs to keep the chains moving. They are 2nd in passing success rate and they should stay on the field in this game and allow Mahomes to clear this prop number.
