Is Trevor Lawrence playing in Week 10 vs. the Vikings?

Updated:

FRIDAY UPDATE: Coach Doug Pederson confirmed that Lawrence is trending towards missing this week. He hasn’t been ruled out, but it looks like Mac Jones will start this week for the Jaguars.

THURSDAY UPDATE: According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Trevor Lawrence is unlikely to play in Week 10 against the Vikings. Reports also state that Lawrence is currently considering many options going forward, including a surgery that would almost assuredly put the remainder of his season in jeopardy.

The Jaguars have struggled this season and are only 2-7 coming into their home game in Week 10 vs. the Vikings. It doesn’t help their cause that they’ve had multiple key injuries in the last few weeks, and now it looks like their starting QB Trevor Lawrence ($5,400) is also batting an injury.

Trevor Lawrence’s situation

On Wednesday, coach Doug Pederson told reporters Lawrence is dealing with some “upper body” soreness and would be limited in practice this week. He said it was too early in the week to know if Lawrence would be available this Sunday.

Lawrence said he was “beat up and sore” after Week 9’s loss to the Eagles, in which he put up 21.56 fantasy points while managing just 169 passing yards. He saved his fantasy day with two rushing touchdowns.

Lawrence has been a pretty solid fantasy option at a low salary the last few weeks, posting over 18 FPTS in four of his last five games — including 28.32 fantasy points in Week 8 while trying to rally his team back against the Packers.

If he does play, he is worth considering at this salary in DFS contests like the NFL $2.75M Fantasy Football Millionaire [$1M to 1st], if you opt to go with a cheaper QB. Lawrence has scored three rushing touchdowns in the last two weeks and is +320 to score a touchdown this week.

Trevor Lawrence’s backup

The Jaguars signed QB C.J. Beathard to the 53-man roster off of the Dolphins’ practice squad to provide extra depth at the position. That could signal that there’s a real chance Lawrence sits this week, or at some point soon if his injury persists.

If Lawrence is out, Mac Jones ($4,400) would start, according to Pederson, with Beathard as the backup. This season in Jacksonville, Jones has appeared in two games and has completed 6-of-9 passes for 28 yards while also losing a fumble.

If Jones starts in place of Lawrence, the Vikings as only five-point favorites would be a strong play after they got back in the win column last week against the Colts.

Jones’ starting would also make it difficult to start any Jaguars for fantasy aside from Brian Thomas Jr. ($6,600), who is putting together an excellent rookie season. Travis Etienne Jr. ($5,800) and Tank Bigsby ($5,700) are both healthy and could carry the load with Lawrence out, but the fact that they’ll share the workload makes both high-risk.
