There were some big upsets in Week 10 of college football. Here are my updated national power rankings heading into Week 11.
I will do a top-25 college football power rankings every week for the duration of the regular season. These power rankings will be based on where every team stands at the current moment, not a prediction of where these teams will be at the end of the season. The team’s ranking from the week prior will be in parenthesis next to its current ranking.
#1- Oregon (1)
Another week and another convincing performance by Oregon. Michigan is struggling this season but going into the Big House and winning by 21 is no easy feat. Oregon is now just three wins away from an undefeated regular season.
#2- Georgia (2)
Georgia still looks shaky but it picked up an important win over Florida. However, the Bulldogs have one of their toughest matchups of this season against Ole Miss this weekend.
#3- Ohio State (5)
The Buckeyes picked up a massive win over Penn State to assert themselves as a playoff team. They have one more big game against Indiana. If they win they should be en route to the Big Ten Championship Game.
#4- Miami (4)
Miami pulled off another second-half comeback to beat Duke and remain undefeated. It heads to Georgia Tech for a decent ACC road test this weekend.
#5- Texas (6)
Texas had a bye week and this weekend it faces Florida with its third-string quarterback. Texas is on a good path to making the SEC Championship Game if it wins the rest of its games.
#6- Indiana (10)
Indiana is having a magical season that continues with a big game against Michigan, the defending national champions, this weekend. The Hoosiers can send a real message by convincingly winning this game.
#7- Penn State (3)
Penn State did what it does every season and lost to Ohio State when it seemed like it had a team that could compete. The Nittany Lions are likely going to win the rest of their games and make the College Football Playoff but they have proven time and again that they cannot beat the top teams in the country.
#8- Tennessee (8)
Tennessee has had a quiet couple of weeks since beating Alabama and it has an easy matchup against Mississippi State this weekend. The Vols’ College Football Playoff dream is still very much alive if they just keep winning.
#9- Notre Dame (11)
Notre Dame had a bye week and now faces Florida State this weekend. This was supposed to be one of the toughest games on their schedule but now looks like an easy win for the Fighting Irish.
#10- Alabama (13)
Alabama has a massive matchup with LSU ahead of this weekend. Both teams have two losses so this could effectively be a playoff elimination game.
#11- BYU (14)
BYU is the lone undefeated team left in the Big 12 after Iowa State lost last weekend. The Cougars are in the driver’s seat to make the Big 12 Championship Game and the College Football Playoff. However, they have a big matchup against Utah this weekend.
#12- LSU (15)
As mentioned above, LSU and Alabama go head-to-head in a hugely important game for potential playoff positioning. The winner of this game has a good chance of making the College Football Playoff while the loser is likely eliminated.
#13- Ole Miss (16)
Ole Miss dominated Arkansas over the weekend and now has some real momentum heading into its big game against Georgia. It must win the rest of its games to have a chance at the College Football Playoff.
#14- Boise State (17)
Boise State continues to look like the top team in the Group of Five. If the Broncos win, they will be the Group of Five representative in the College Football Playoff.
#15- SMU (19)
After Clemson’s loss and SMU’s big win over Pittsburgh on Saturday, the Mustangs look like the second-best team in the ACC behind Miami. They now have a clear path to the ACC Championship Game.
#16- Iowa State (9)
Iowa State suffered its first loss of the season against Texas Tech on Saturday. The Cyclones still have a path to the Big 12 Championship Game but are now competing with multiple one-loss teams in the conference. They also have a big game against Kansas this weekend.
#17- Texas A&M (12)
Texas A&M lost its first conference game of the season against South Carolina on Saturday. However, the Aggies still have a route to the SEC Championship Game but it does involve them knocking off Texas in the last week of the season.
#18- Clemson (7)
Clemson suffered its first ACC loss of the season in blowout fashion against Louisville. It now would need to win the ACC Championship Game to make the Playoff.
#19- Army (21)
Army is undefeated but it still has Notre Dame on the schedule in two weeks. If it can somehow win that game, it could leapfrog Boise State as the College Football Playoff team from the Group of Five.
#20- Washington State (22)
Washington State continues to win but it doesn’t play a tough enough schedule to make the College Football Playoff. It will likely finish the season with one loss and ranked in the top 20 but with nothing to show for it.
#21- Colorado (23)
Colorado continues to defy the odds and win games. It still has three massive games to end the season, however, starting with Texas Tech this weekend.
#22- Tulane (24)
Tulane is still undefeated in the AAC and could be a long shot to make the College Football Playoff if it wins the rest of its games, including the AAC Championship Game against likely Army.
#23- South Carolina (NR)
South Carolina picked up a signature win over top-10 Texas A&M on Saturday. It lost very close games to Alabama and LSU and if even one of those results flipped in its favor, it would be in the thick of SEC and CFP contention.
#24- Vanderbilt (NR)
Vanderbilt knocked off Auburn to continue its Cinderella season. However, it faces South Carolina in a massive game for both teams this weekend.
#25- Louisville (NR)
Louisville defeated Clemson to get its season back on track. After some early season struggles, it has started to play well and all three of its losses came to teams currently ranked in the top 13.
Teams that dropped out after Week 10: Kansas State (18), Pittsburgh (20), Illinois (25)
