The NBA has issued a three-game suspension to Philadelphia 76ers star C Joel Embiid for shoving a media member after Saturday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Embiid and Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Marcus Hayes got into a confrontation after Saturday’s game. This argument started after Hayes mentioned Embiid’s late brother and son in a column. Embiid has missed the first six games of the season with a knee injury. This suspension does not start immediately. It begins when Embiid is healthy and eligible to return.
The Sixers have gotten off to a rough 1-5 start to the season. Paul George made his Sixers debut last night, but it wasn’t enough, as they lost to the Phoenix Suns 118-116. Injuries and controversies have continued to hover over the Sixers franchise. It is unknown when Embiid will be healthy enough to make his season debut.
Embiid won the NBA MVP award during the 2022-23 season and is a seven-time NBA All-Star. After playing in 60-plus games from 2021-2022, Embiid only appeared in 39 games last season. The Sixers are 14th in the Eastern Conference right now and are only ahead of the 1-6 Milwaukee Bucks. If Embiid returns to the court healthy, the Sixers will once again become contenders.
