Is Chase Brown a solid RB1 with Zack Moss out indefinitely?

Is Chase Brown a solid RB1 with Zack Moss out indefinitely?

Zack Moss missed Week 9 and the back is expected to miss more games, with Bengals’ head coach Zac Taylor telling the media Monday that Moss is out indefinitely. This leaves Chase Brown in a clear featured role for Cincinnati.

With Moss missing his first game of the season this past Sunday vs. the Raiders, Brown erupted for 29.7 FPTS in the win over Las Vegas. The back saw 27 carries – including seven red-zone attempts – while logging 79.7% of the snaps, all of which set career-highs for Brown. Notably, no other Bengals’ running back saw a carry in this victory. Furthermore, among all the running backs that competed on Sunday, Brown finished third in snap share, third in carries and second in red-zone carries.

For the season, Brown is averaging 4.6 yards per carry and he ranks sixth among running backs in FPTS per snap (0.48). Given his success as the Bengals’ workhorse in Week 9, Brown should obtain 20+ touches on a weekly basis with Moss on the shelf and he should put up excellent numbers with that huge role.

Brown does face the Ravens and their league-best rush defense Thursday – Baltimore is allowing the fewest yards per rush this season (3.4) – but after this, he faces the Chargers and Cowboys over the next three weeks, both of which rank inside the top-10 in yards per rush allowed.

All in all, Brown has one of the most prominent running back roles in the NFL until Moss returns and is a legitimate RB1 for fantasy football.
