Trae Young best prop bets for Hawks at Pelicans

The Atlanta Hawks are off to a 2-4 start to the season and will be facing off with the 3-3 Pelicans in today’s matchup.

New Orleans is a four-point favorite in this matchup while Atlanta is +145 underdogs on the moneyline on DraftKings Sportsbook. The game total is set at 230.5 for the game.

The Pelicans are already battling injuries to start the season. Dejounte Murray will be out for an extended period due to his broken hand and CJ McCollum, Herb Jones and Trey Murphy will each miss this matchup. Jordan Hawkins is also listed as questionable. For the Hawks, Dyson Daniels is listed as questionable while Bogdan Bogdanovic, Kobe Bufkin, De’Andre Hunter and Vit Krejci are all out.

As is typically the case with the Hawks, Trae Young will headline their attack. Here are the best Trae Young props on DraftKings Sportsbook ahead of the matchup with the Pelicans.

Trae Young Prop Bets on DraftKings Sportsbook

DraftKings Sportsbook has set Young’s prop lines across points (27.5), assists (11.5), three-pointers (3.5) and rebounds (3.5). Here are the top betting options to consider:

Over 27.5 Points (-125): The point line for Trae Young is set at 27.5 points for this matchup with the odds set at -125 for the over. Through the first six games, he is averaging 27.7 points per game and he has eclipsed 27.5 points in three of the first six games. Young has averaged as many as 29.6 points per game for a season but averaged just 25.7 points per game last season.

Looking at this matchup, New Orleans ranks 16th in opponent points per game, 21st in field-goal percentage allowed and 25th in three-point percentage allowed. Young will continue to have a lot on his plate but he is due some positive shooting regression as he has shot just 39.8% from the field and 30.5% on three-point attempts, which are both career lows. Expect Young to go down shooting and to have the inside edge on clearing this number in the matchup with the short-handed Pelicans.

Over 11.5 Assists (-115): The assist line for Young is set at 11.5 with the over and under both set at -115 odds. The Hawks’ star currently leads the NBA in assists with an average of 11.7 per game so far. He has tallied as many as 15 assists in a game already this season and had over 11.5 assists in four of the six games.

While the ability of some of the supporting cast to hit shots is a concern for this prop, Young has been excellent at generating offense for his teammates this season and throughout his career. Expect Young to remain in the mix for playmaking leaders throughout the season, but the 11.5 assists feels a bit steep for this matchup.

Over 3.5 Made Three-Pointers (+105): The three-point prop line for Trae Young is set at 3.5, with the over holding +105 odds and the under favored at -135. Young is attempting 9.8 three-pointers per game so far this season, which ranks sixth in the NBA. However, he is connecting at just a 30.5% rate. Throughout his career, Young has been a 35.4% three-point shooter and shot 37.3% from beyond the arc last season. He has only cleared the over 3.5 made three-pointers in two of the six games so far.

This could be the perfect matchup for Young to begin getting on the right path. The Pelicans rank 25th in three-point percentage allowed and will be without their top two perimeter defenders in this game. Young is due to start connecting at a higher rate and I like him to knock down at least four three-pointers and begin shooting closer to his expectations in this game.

Over 3.5 Rebounds (+120): The rebounding prop for Young is set at 3.5 rebounds, with the under favored at -154 odds and the odds for the over set at +120. While this is not an area Young is known for, he has cleared 3.5 rebounds in five of the six games and is averaging 5.2 rebounds per game. This is a career-high number for the 26-year-old with his previous career high sitting at 4.3 back in the 2019-20 season.

While this number will eventually settle down, this may not be the matchup for it to occur. New Orleans ranks 23rd in opponent rebounding and allows 11.8 offensive rebounds per game, which ranks 19th in the league. This is not at the top of my list for best bets considering how much game script plays a part of it, but there is some value in the over of 3.5 rebounds.

Futures Outlook: Atlanta was viewed as a team with an unclear future heading into the season. Now six games in, it holds +185 odds of making the playoffs and -250 odds of making the play-in games. The Hawks are considered +30,000 long shots to win the Eastern Conference.

Looking at Trae Young specifically, he holds +15,000 odds of winning MVP, which are the 16th-best odds in the league. He also holds +2,000 odds of winning the Clutch Player of the Year Award, which are the ninth-best odds in the league.
