UFC Undisputed Welterweight Champion Belal Muhammad revealed on his Instagram that he suffered a bone infection in his foot. This injury will force Muhammad to withdraw from his first title defense against No. 3 Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310 on December 7.
Muhammad beat Leon Edwards by unanimous decision at UFC 304 in July to become UFC champion. He has won 10 fights in a row and has not lost a fight since January 2019. He stated that six weeks without physical activity is required for his recovery.
This was a highly anticipated matchup, as his opponent is one of the most prominent contenders in the UFC. Rakhmonov is 18-0 in his MMA career, with 18 finishes. He is 6-0 in the UFC and last beat Stephen Thompson in December 2023.
It is unknown when Muhammad will be fully healthy and able to return to the Octagon. The co-main event features Undisputed UFC Flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja defending his title against UFC newcomer Kai Asakura. It is likely that the UFC will try to add another title fight at the top of this PPV.
