Is Drake Maye starting in Week 9 vs. the Titans?

Updated:

By: Alex Hunter

Maye ($5,400) exited last week’s win over the Jets early with a concussion, but the rookie has a chance to play this Sunday vs. the Titans. after gettin his second straight limited practice session Thursday. Barring a setback, it is likely Maye will be starting vs. Tennessee. While this is a less than ideal matchup, with the Titans giving up the third-fewest yards per pass this season (5.4), Maye will be a solid quarterback to stream if he starts. And it could elevate some of his playmakers, like DeMario Douglas ($4,400).

In the two games he has started and completed this season, Maye has exceeded 20 FPTS. The rookie is averaging a modest 6.7 yards per pass, but Maye has thrown for four touchdowns and only two picks. Additionally, his willingness as a rusher is encouraging, with Maye averaging 4.0 carries per game in his two full starts. Overall, Maye ranks 10th in FPTS per dropback among quarterbacks this season (0.55), which is higher than the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins and CJ Stroud, just to name a few.

Maye’s likely return is a strong boost to the entire New England offense, especially Douglas. In the only game Maye and Douglas have started and completed together this season, the latter was targeted on a team-high 32% of his route and Douglas caught six of his nine targets for 92 yards and touchdown vs. the Texans (21.2 FPTS). The wideout will almost certainly come with low ownership due to his inconsistent gamelog and Douglas will have merit as a DFS contrarian play if Maye is starting this weekend.
