Los Angeles Dodgers at New York Yankees
The Pick: Dodgers moneyline +124
Yeah, I think this series is over.
Even with the Dodgers running out a bullpen game tonight, I’m having a hard time convincing myself this lifeless Yankees offense will come alive. This team is slashing .186/.284/.294 with 31 strikeouts, and just five extra base hits through three games. Sure, this is probably the “best” matchup they’ll face thus far, but they’ve shown nothing at the plate. Maybe, just maybe, they can squeak out a win tonight against the Dodgers bullpen. But, if I’m getting plus money on the Dodgers, I’m taking it.
Luis Gil is going to try and salvage the season for the Yankees. He’s only pitched once in the playoffs and went four innings against the Guardians, allowing two runs with three strikeouts. The biggest issue for Gil is how wild he can get on the mound. This is not a club you can afford to do that with. The Dodgers are a patient club against righties and tonight’s expected lineup has a combined 10.3% BB% against them. If they can remain patient at the plate against Gil, they’ll put men on base quickly. Unlike the Yankees, the Dodgers have been knocking in runs when men are on base.
The Pick: Yankees team total under 4.5 runs -125
The Yankees have gone under 4.5 runs in the first three games of the series. That doesn’t automatically mean it’ll happen again tonight, but five runs for the Yankees is a tall task right now. If it wasn’t for Juan Soto and Giancarlo Stanton, this team would have no hope. Again, this is a situaton for me where if I lose this bet, so be it. I would at least like to think I have a shot of them going over but I don’t. The Dodgers bullpen has allowed four runs through three games with seven different relievers combining for over 11 innings pitched. After starting with an opener, they’ll go the bulk of the innings with either Brent Honeywell, Ben Casparius or Landon Knack. Casparius has been the best amongst the three and has thrown 4.1 innings of shutout baseball this postseason.
