There were some exciting games in Week 9 of college football. Here are my updated national power rankings heading into Week 10.
I will do a top-25 college football power rankings every week for the duration of the regular season. These power rankings will be based on where every team stands at the current moment, not a prediction of where these teams will be at the end of the season. The team’s ranking from the week prior will be in parenthesis next to its current ranking.
#1- Oregon (1)
The Ducks picked up a ranked win over Illinois to assert themselves as the real deal No. 1 team in the nation. They should go the rest of the regular season undefeated before facing Indiana, Penn State or Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship Game.
#2- Georgia (2)
The Bulldogs had a bye week and remain at No. 2 ahead of their rivalry game against Florida this weekend.
#3- Penn State (3)
Penn State showed great fortitude in beating Wisconsin on the road despite Drew Allar getting injured and leaving the game. It plays one of the biggest games of the year against Ohio State this weekend.
#4- Miami (4)
Miami dominated Florida State and now has a very clear path to finish the regular season undefeated.
#5- Ohio State (5)
Ohio State struggled to get past Nebraska but it remains a 1-loss team ahead of its massive game against Penn State this weekend.
#6- Texas (6)
The Longhorns survived a competitive game against Vanderbilt and now head into a bye week before their final stretch of the SEC season.
#7- Clemson (7)
Clemson had a bye week and now its ACC schedule gets a bit tougher with games against Louisville and Virginia Tech in the next two weeks.
#8- Tennessee (8)
Tennessee faces Kentucky in an important SEC matchup as it looks to stay alive in the conference race.
#9- Iowa State (10)
Iowa State is still undefeated in the Big 12 and it hosts the electric Texas Tech offense this weekend.
#10- Indiana (11)
Indiana knocked off Washington despite missing QB Kurtis Rourke. The Hoosiers are the real deal and will have the chance to prove it against Michigan in two weeks.
#11- Notre Dame (13)
The Fighting Irish dominated a ranked Navy team and they are absolutely rolling at the moment. They have a bye week ahead before facing Florida State the following week. If they win out, they will be a playoff team.
#12- Texas A&M (16)
Texas A&M knocked off LSU to stay the only undefeated team in SEC play. The Aggies now have a tough road test against South Carolina this weekend.
#13- Alabama (12)
Alabama dominated Missouri 34-0 in a game it really needed to get back on track. The Crimson Tide have a bye week this week before a massive game against LSU to keep their playoff hopes alive.
#14- BYU (14)
BYU also remained undefeated in Big 12 play after an impressive road win over UCF. It heads into a bye week ahead of an important road game against Utah.
#15- LSU (9)
LSU was knocked off by Texas A&M and now sits in dangerous territory with two losses this season. It also get a bye week before the big game against Alabama.
#16- Ole Miss (15)
Ole Miss is another two-loss SEC team that is holding on for dear life. It beat Oklahoma over the weekend and faces Arkansas this weekend.
#17- Boise State (17)
Boise State defeated UNLV in the most important game on its schedule. It now has a clear path to finish the regular season with its only loss coming to No. 1 Oregon. If the Broncos win the rest of their games, they will be in the College Football Playoff.
#18- Kansas State (18)
The Wildcats are still very much in the Big 12 race after defeating their rivals, Kansas. They travel to Houston to face the Cougars this weekend.
#19- SMU (19)
SMU beat Duke in overtime to remain undefeated in the ACC. It plays a hugely important game against undefeated Pittsburgh this weekend.
#20- Pittsburgh (21)
Pitt dominated Syracuse last week and now plays the biggest game of its season against SMU on Saturday. The loser is basically eliminated from ACC contention.
#21- Army (24)
Army managed to jump Navy on its bye week as the Midshipmen fell to Notre Dame. Army still needs to play Notre Dame and Navy but hypothetically, if it won out, it would make the College Football Playoff.
#22- Washington State (NR)
Washington State is lonely in the “Pac-2 Conference” but it continues to stack wins. Unfortunately, it could finish 11-1 and would still likely miss the College Football Playoff.
#23- Colorado (NR)
Colorado continues to impress after beating Cincinnati. It needs some help but it is still in the Big 12 Conference race.
#24- Tulane (NR)
Tulane is undefeated in the AAC, along with Army and Navy. It should be a part of an exciting conference race in these final few weeks.
#25- Illinois (20)
The Fighting Illini lost to Oregon by a good margin over the weekend. They now cling onto a top-25 spot for dear life with Minnesota on deck this weekend.
