After being a nonfactor in the Jets’ first two games under interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich with a total of only six touches, Braelon Allen ($4,400 in Showdown) stormed back on the scene in Week 8.
The rookie logged a season-high 12 carries in the loss to the Patriots and rushed for 32 yards and a touchdown with those opportunities (9.2 FPTS). Allen played 30.7% of the snaps and he handled 42.9% of New York’s running back carries, including two redzone rushes, which is the same amount Breece Hall ($10,400) saw in the redzone. Hall only obtained four more carries than Allen, but Hall was more effective, with 5.0 yards per carry compared to only 2.6 for Allen.
Considering the Jets lost their fifth game in a row to the lowly Patriots with Allen playing a bigger role, it’s difficult to predict if the rookie will continue to see a similar workload in Week 9, especially after Allen saw little work to begin Ulbrich’s tenure as the Jets’ HC. New York could easily go back to making Hall a workhorse — this leaves Allen’s floor very shaky this Thursday despite the plus matchup vs. the Texans, who are giving up the ninth-most yards per rush this season (4.7).
The rookie would need to find the paydirt to provide value, which feels unlikely considering his +320 odds for an anytime touchdown on DraftKings Sportsbook. Unless you are in a very deep league and extremely desperate, Allen isn’t worth starting in your fantasy football league this week.
