DraftKings Showdown Value Picks
Braelon Allen ($4,400)
In recent weeks, the Jets have given rookie Braelon Allen a chance to make his mark in the backfield. The youngest player in the league is coming off a career-high 12 carries in the loss against New England, where he saw a bulk of his work near the goal line. Allen punched in his third score of the young campaign, and his massive stature earned him the nod in short-yardage situations over starter Breece Hall.
His blend of power and speed is an intriguing combination that has to fully translate into production on a field at the next level. He’s only surpassed 50+ yards once, and even in limited carries, he has failed to be uber-efficient. The talent is there—it’s just about getting consistent opportunities and executing. Houston has an excellent run defense that matters far less with most of the work within the twenty. If Allen continues to be a touchdown vulture, there’s a stable DFS floor.
John Metchie III ($2,800)
One of the most inspiring stories of resiliency in the NFL, John Metchie III, is ready for his moment. The 24-year-old was a star at the University of Alabama, amassing over 1,100 receiving yards while hitting the “Crimson Crane” every time he reached the end zone. Even surrounded by elite wideouts throughout his tenure, Metchie III still stood out as a speedster who could get open in a blink with a great pair of hands. Just a few months after the Texans picked him in the second round, he was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia, a rare type of blood cancer.
After getting cleared to play, Metchie III recorded just 16 receptions in his first season. This year was much of the same, but with Nico Collins and Stefon Diggs on the shelf, it opens the door for the third-year pro to be a featured wide receiver in this high-powered offense. Metchie III is a skilled route runner and a talented vertical threat who finally has the chance to show his skill in an expanded role. At this minuscule assigned value, slotting Metchie III in your lineup is the premier value play of the showdown.
