The Dolphins have a full house in the running back room, and now that Raheem Mostert has been back for the last three games, things have begun to get murky. In the four games this season where both running backs have played, De’Von Achane has received 38 carries compared to 45 for Mostert. In the receiving game, Achane has 16 catches and a touchdown compared to five for Mostert and no scores.
Achane is averaging 15.73 FPTS over that four-game span, while Mostert is averaging 8.9. Mostert has more rushing touchdowns on the year, but Achane’s ability in the passing game is what separates him and makes him the better play out of the Dolphins backfield. He has the fourth most receiving yards on the team and is second in receptions. In fact, he only has one less reception this year (29) than the team’s leading receiver, Tyreek Hill (30).
Achane may now be the Bell cow type back, but he still is averaging a respectable 4.4 yards per carry, compared to 3.5 for Mostert. Buffalo has been very generous to opposing running backs this season, giving up the second most FPTS to their opposition. Having Achane in your Week 9 lineup could be crucial for a special week.
