The San Antonio Spurs opened their season with a 120-109 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday. Victor Wembanyama kicked off his second season with 17 points and nine rebounds but struggled with efficiency, shooting 5-of-18 from the field.

Wembanyama, who last played meaningful basketball for the French national team in the Olympics in August, acknowledged he felt a step behind early on. While conditioning was a factor, he dismissed it as an excuse for his shooting struggles and expressed confidence that improved results were within reach.

“None of us really have played four games since [the] middle of the summer for me,” Wembanyama said. “It’s a struggle. Every player in the NBA goes through it. Conditioning is not an excuse [for missed shots].”

As the Spurs prepare to host the Houston Rockets, Wembanyama will look to have a bounce-back performance in his second game of the season.

DraftKings Sportsbook has set Wembanyama’s prop lines across points (24.5), rebounds (10.5), assists (4.5) and blocks (3.5). Here are the top betting options to consider:

Over 24.5 Points (-115): The points line for Wembanyama is set at 24.5, with the Over favored at -115. After scoring 17 points in his opener and averaging 21.4 points per game last season, the numbers aren’t ideal indicators for this prop. However, Wembanyama’s offensive role is expected to expand. He’s primed to increase his scoring efficiency, making the Over a solid play.

Over 10.5 Rebounds (-135): Wembanyama’s rebounding line is 10.5, with the Over at -135. Known for his length and presence on the boards, he averaged 10.6 rebounds per game last season and pulled down nine in his debut. The Over is a favorable play against a Houston team emphasizing pace and offensive rebounding.

Over 4.5 Assists (-110): With an assists line set at 4.5, the Over at -110 focuses on Wembanyama’s facilitating ability. Last season, he averaged 3.9 assists per game and will likely have more playmaking responsibility, especially with Devin Vassell out. The Over on assists is worth considering.

Over 3.5 Blocks (-160): Wembanyama’s blocks line is set at 3.5, with the Over heavily favored at -160. Averaging 4.3 blocks in games against Houston last season, his rim protection could be impactful against the Rockets’ drive-heavy offense. The Over on blocks offers value despite the odds.

Points + Rebounds Over 35.5 (-115): The combined line for Wembanyama’s points and rebounds is 35.5, with the Over at -115. Given his scoring and rebounding averages last season, this line provides value, especially as he looks to bounce back from a lower shooting percentage in his first game.

Futures Outlook: Wembanyama remains a popular choice in individual futures markets, ranked eighth in MVP odds at +2200 on DraftKings Sportsbook. He’s the favorite for Most Improved Player of the Year at +750, and his defensive impact has him strongly favored (-130) to win Defensive Player of the Year. The Spurs are +350 to make the playoffs and -475 to miss, underscoring the long odds for postseason play in Wembanyama’s rookie season.
