The Cowboys will face the 49ers in one of the sport’s oldest rivalries.

It’s primetime, which means DraftKings has a premier showdown contest. In this mode, choosing the best captain is critical since they earn 1.5x fantasy points. I’ve honed in on my three favorite players deserving of claiming the crown to lead your squad to victory.

DraftKings Showdown Captain (CPT) Picks

Jordan Mason ($16,500)

For a while, it looked like the dropoff between Christian McCaffrey and Jordan Mason wouldn’t be as dramatic as initially anticipated. There’s no replacing the production of the reigning Offensive Player of the Year, but Mason started his campaign on a tear. The Georgia Tech alum was a big play machine, carving up opposing defenses for massive gains behind a makeshift offensive line.

Despite showing promise, he’s failed to overcompensate for shaky run blocking. Mason has broken eight tackles in seven games but has been tackled behind the line 13 times. He’s coming off his worst showing as a bellcow, as he was totally stifled by the Kansas City front seven.

What’s the best way to get back on track? A date with a Dallas squad that’s allowed the fourth-most points to running backs this season, who will be without their leader, Micah Parsons. Mason should see a hefty workload and is due to find the end zone for the first time in a month.

CeeDee Lamb ($15,900)

Despite getting a monster raise in August, CeeDee Lamb hasn’t quite lived up to his new deal. The superstar wideout has failed to cross the century mark in any contest this season and has only scored a pair of touchdowns after crossing the pylons 12 times in 2023. There’s been a clear disconnect between Lamb and signal-caller Dak Prescott ($14,400) despite their years of elite chemistry.

The fifth-year pro is coming off 14 targets in a disastrous loss at home to Detroit, but the emphasis on getting him the rock was apparent. The Cowboys are 3-3 coming out of the bye in a competitive but wide-open division. The aerial attack is the club’s only chance of getting out of first gear, and everyone around the organization understands that.

Lamb should garner plenty of looks against a banged-up secondary while being elevated by a “must-win” mentality.

Ricky Pearsall ($8,700)

Rookie Ricky Pearsall had to overcome both a nagging shoulder injury and a gunshot wound just to start his NFL career. Lost in his incredible recovery have been Pearsall’s talents. This past April, he was the 31st pick of the draft after a stellar super-senior campaign at Florida. The speedster can do work on the perimeter but should see a chunk of his snaps from the slot.

With how banged up San Francisco is at pass catcher, Pearsall goes from making his league debut to a top option in the span of seven days. Head coach Kyle Shannan will likely emphasize the ground game due to personnell, but the 24-year-old has an immense opportunity to burst onto the scene.

Xaiver joined DraftKings in August 2024, fresh out of the University of Oregon. The Massachusetts native was commenting on his sports video games by the time he could tie his shoes and fantasized about turning his favorite hobby into his future career. He might not have grown tall enough to be an elite stretch-five who could rock the rim, but this content-creating thing is a decent second option.
