Baker Mayfield is, devastatingly, going to be without both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. Lopping off such a crucial appendage of that depth chart has paved the way for rookie wideout Jalen McMillan to carve a role for himself in this passing offense. Bettors are wondering whether or not the Jalen McMillan prop market has any potential value.
While the options for McMillan props on DraftKings Sportsbook are quite robust, there’s one in particular I’ll be backing headed into Week 8.
Best Jalen McMillan prop bets for NFL Week 8
Jalen McMillan OVER 38.5 receiving yards -115
Interestingly enough, McMillan’s yardage total is this low, but he’s at +170 odds to score a touchdown during this game. His receptions line is at 3.5, which I think he’ll clear as well. But the yardage is the best bet.
McMillan was known for stretching defenses as a Washington Husky. It’s all in his athletic profile. I actually wrote about McMillan back in August and called him one of the better undrafted fantasy assets to watchlist:
2024’s No. 92-overall pick Jalen McMillan very well could have had the season at Washington in 2023 that Rome Odunze had, were it not for health concerns. In the season prior (2022), McMillan broke out with 1,098 receiving yards and nine receiving TDs.
A knee injury then seemed to derail any shot at reaching his potential. At Washington in 2023, he caught 45 receptions to 559 yards and five receiving touchdowns. Most recently, he scored a touchdown in both the CFB playoffs vs Texas and Michigan in the National Championship.
Good news: He didn’t appear at all injured at NFL combine, where he ran a 4.47 40-yard dash and registered a high jump of 37” inches. All this at 6’1″ and only 197 pounds—McMillan can get over the top of a defense and be physical at the point of contested catches.
His only issue was volume and depth chart. Issue no more, what with the absolute-bummer injuries to Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Baker Mayfield will probably use Cade Otton and Sterling Shepherd plenty against the Falcons on Sunday. But McMillan is a gamebreaker, and I’m predicting a full-on breakout game against
In his most successful season at Washington, McMillan finished with 1,098 receiving yards on 79 receptions. That’s good for 13.9 yards per clip. McMillan saw eight targets from Mayfield last week. If he’s at his best, he only needs three of those 3.5 receptions to clear this line.
I’m taking the over here, but staying away from all his other props. +170 for a touchdown just makes me more confident Jalen McMillan clears 40 receiving yards.
