The Los Angeles Lakers started the season with a victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on opening night. Tonight, they look to start a winning streak in a home matchup vs. the Phoenix Suns.
Lakers center Anthony Davis put up a monster performance against the T-Wolves with 36 points, 16 rebounds, four assists, four blocks and a steal. For Friday’s game between the Lakers and Suns, Davis’ lines currently read 26.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 1.5 steals on DraftKings Sportsbook. The Lakers enter as 1.5-point underdogs and the game total sits at 226.5.
In five contests against the Suns last season, Davis averaged 22.0 PPG, 11.4 REB, 1.6 AST, 1.4 STL, and 2.0 BLK. The Suns roster hasn’t changed significantly aside from the addition of point guard Tyus Jones, so Davis will still primarily match up with Phoenix’s burly center, Jusuf Nurkic.
As mentioned earlier, Davis is a defensive force. One of the best value bets of the night could be over 3.5 steals + blocks, which is set at +114. AD can both anchor a defense and wreak havoc on the perimeter, and his services will be necessary tonight against Kevin Durant and Devin Booker.
After his hot start on opening night, it’s possible the Lakers want to feed Davis coming out of the gate. There’s attractive lines here, depending on risk tolerance. Davis is -170 to score 8+ points in the first quarter, -105 to score 9+, and +125 to record 10+. For those who think he’ll be the focal point of the offensive attack to begin the night, any of these lines could be worth checking out.
