NBA Best Bets, Picks for Spurs vs. Mavericks: Victor Wembanyama Props

Victor Wembanyama will take the floor to begin his second season on Thursday night in Dallas. As you might expect, Wemby props are going to be extremely popular season season, and are taking a lot of money on DraftKings Sportsbook. Let’s breakdown the five most bet Wemby props for tonight in order of ticket count, as well as a best bet from me in the game.

Victor Wembanyama Double-Double: YES (-270) – This feels like more of a parlay leg, but bettors are laying the heavy juice on a double-double from Wemby. Down the stretch of his rookie season, he finished with a double-double in 25 of his final 35 games.

Victor Wembanyama OVER 25.5 Points (-120) – As you’d imagine, the public wants to back big games from Wemby. He had some monster games towards the end of his rookie season, so the over on his point prop has been bet more than the under — which is also a popular prop we’ll get to.

Victor Wembanyama UNDER 2.5 3-Pointers (-125) – Bettors are taking the sharper angle of backing the under on Wemby’s triples. The juice is ticking down a bit, and while I understand the angle, this is one to be careful with. Wemby hit three of more from downtown in five of his final seven games last season. However, he also shot just 1-of-9 from beyond the arc in preseason.

Victor Wembanyama OVER 11.5 Rebounds (-110) – Wemby has the ability to go for 20 boards on any night, and the public is hoping that’s the case in the season opener. But Dallas has some decent size in the paint, and it’s telling that this one has already dropped to 10.5, although there is heavy juice to the over at that number.

Victor Wembanyama UNDER 25.5 Points (-110) – While more tickets are on the over for Wemby’s points, we’ve seen the juice on the under drop to -120. That indicates sharper action on the under.

I’ll be staying away from the Wemby props tonight, but I am backing his team as a pretty sizable dog in this game.

San Antonio Spurs +8.5 (-110) – 1-unit

The Spurs took a while to find their stride last season, but were able to finish the season playing just about .500 basketball. That overlap with Wemby developing his game, and some of the rest of the younger core playing good basketball around him. Over the final 20 games out the season, the Spurs only lost four games by more than eight points, and they came to Thunder, Nuggets, Suns and Warriors. The Mavericks also represent that level of competition, although the Spurs were able to cover a game against Dallas during that stretch.

But coming into this season, I think the Spurs are equipped to be a much better team. Of course, Wemby has another year under his belt, and we should see his game take a leap. But the additional veteran leadership of guys like Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes should keep this team in playoff contention.

The Mavericks might have a little hangover from getting all the way to the NBA Finals and falling short, and also have some roster tweaks to figure out with additions like Klay Thompson. Give me Wemby to anchor a much improved defense and give the Mavs some trouble in this one, while Paul will also find ways to get Wemby easier looks.
