The lone issue with his game was his outside shooting, with the Duke product shooting 28% from beyond the arc.
Tatum focused on improving his three-point shooting in offseason and his improvements where on full display in the Celtics’ home opener Tuesday vs. the Knicks. Tatum went off for 37 points in the 23-point rout over New York, while shooting an outstanding 14-of-18 from the field, including 8-for-11 on three pointers.
Tatum’s shot release was visibly quicker and higher than previous seasons, and he finished with an eye-popping 98% true shooting percentage in the blowout over the Knicks.
Next up for Tatum is a stellar matchup vs. the Wizards on Thursday. Washington led the league in pace last season and they ranked 28th in defensive efficiency. Additionally, the Wizards allowed the most points to opposing power forwards. The forward torched Washington for 32.7 PPG in three matchups last season and he surpassed 28.5 points in all of those games.
