Tyler Goodson is the Colts handcuff to roster in fantasy football

Updated:

By: Alex Hunter

Goodson ($5,500) has overtaken the ineffective Trey Sermon ($5,300) as the Colts’ primary back behind Jonathan Taylor ($7,500; ankle). With the back missing his third straight game in Week 7, Goodson saw a season-high 14 carries, compared to only eight for Sermon. Furthermore, Goodson out-carried Sermon 3-1 in the red zone. Overall, Goodson handled 63.6% of the Colts’ running back carries, logged 48% of the snaps and recorded 11.1 FPTS in Indianapolis’ win over Miami—all of which are season highs for Goodson.

Given Goodson has been a far more effective rusher this season, him leapfrogging on Sermon on the depth chart felt inevitable. This season, Goodson is averaging 4.7 yards per carry, compared to only 2.8 for Sermon.

Taylor is expected to return to practice this week, but if he ends up missing his fourth straight game this Sunday vs. the Texans, Goodson should operate as the Colts’ lead rusher. He’ll be a strong RB3 for season-long leagues and a compelling value for DFS in that role.

Even if Taylor returns, he has become a fragile player with his never-ending ankle issues, making Goodson a compelling handcuff to stash on your bench in your season-long leagues.
