Bet Tyrese Maxey’s point prop with Joel Embiid and Paul George out vs. the Bucks

The 76ers are already dealing with the injury bug and their season hasn’t even started yet. For their season opener Wednesday vs. the Bucks, both Joel Embiid (injury management) and Paul George (knee) have been ruled out, leaving Tyrese Maxey in a featured role.

Given he has yet to make his 76ers’ debut, we don’t have any data yet with George off the floor for Philadelphia, but we have plenty when it comes to Embiid. The center led the NBA in usage rate last season (38.7%) and with Embiid off the court, Maxey took over the offense with a 31.7% usage rate, which is a 3.5 percentage point increase from his season average. Maxey is averaging 26.6 PPG in the last 10 starts he has made with Embiid inactive and Wednesday presents a great matchup for Maxey to start his season on a high note.

Last season, the Bucks ranked 20th in defensive efficiency and ninth in pace. With the defensively inept Damian Lillard at the helm, Milwaukee was a tremendous matchup for point guards and Maxey exposed the Bucks for 28.3 PPG in three matchups last season, two of which came with Embiid sidelined.

Maxey scored 30+ points in two of his three matchups with the Bucks last season and he is an appealing bet to exceed his 29.5-point prop on DraftKings Sportsbook (-115), as this line likely will increase before tomorrow’s matchup.
