With Rashid Shaeed lost for the season due to a knee injury, the Saints have signed Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
Valdes-Scantling is 6-foot-4, 206 pounds and runs a 4.37 40. He was selected in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers. MVS spent four seasons in Green Bay before signing with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he played two seasons and was released. He was with the Buffalo Bills this season, but was released after the Bills acquired Amari Cooper.
MVS is a “take-the-top-off-the-defense” receiver. He has never garnered more than 81 targets in the season or exceeded 690 yards. In six seasons, he caught 188 passes for 3,181 yards and 16 touchdowns while posting a career catch rate of 49.6%.
MVS will join a wide receiver group that consists of Chris Olave, Cedrick Wilson Jr. and Bub Means. His role will likely be to run wind sprints and open up things underneath.
