Remember back in Week 1, when McCaffrey was expected to play in the Monday Night Football season opener against the Jets?
Yeah, so does everyone who used an early fantasy football draft pick on the 49ers superstar. He was the consensus No. 1 overall pick after his massive fantasy season last year, but it’s been quite the journey for him and his fantasy owners this season.
Finally, though, there is hope on the horizon!

McCaffrey is not expected to play Week 8 against the Cowboys, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, but he could be back on November 10, when the 49ers return from a bye week in Week 9 and face the Buccaneers in Tampa Bay.
The 49ers have had “early November” as CMC’s targeted return since placing him on IR, and that Week 10 matchup on the road against the Buccaneers is the team’s first matchup in November. It would also give him a chance to build up during the bye week and taking on a larger load in his first game of the season.
According to Rapoport, CMC has been running on flat ground and has not had any setbacks. If that continues, he could be back in time for a few big weeks before your season-long playoffs start. If you’ve stayed in the hunt, his tasty matchups against the Rams and Dolphins in Week 15 and 16 could come at the perfect time.
Whenever CMC does return, he will take a ton of value from Jordan Mason, who has filled in with outstanding production. After possibly losing Brandon Aiyuk (knee) to a serious injury, though, the 49ers will most likely try to keep both Mason and McCaffrey involved since they’ll need all the playmakers they can get.

Hold on a little longer, McCaffrey owners! Your long season of waiting could pay off with a big return as the focus of the offense at just the right time.
