Even though Week 7 was lower scoring in fantasy football than the last few weeks, it still set up perfectly for a “Crowning Moment” for theHman, who build an entry that claimed the top spot in the $2.5M Fantasy Football Millionaire on DraftKings. The $10 entry ended up in the top spot all alone on Sunday, totaling 185.36 fantasy points, which was just over 2.00 fantasy points higher than any other entry in the field of 294,117 entries.
Here’s what the winning entry looked like from theHman:
Highest Scorers
The top scorer of the week was Jahmyr Gibbs ($6,900; 35 FPTS), who stepped up in a huge way for theHman and the Lions, taking on more work while David Montgomery ($6,600; 9 FPTS) was in and out of the lineup with an injury. Gibbs racked up 116 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns while adding four catches for 44 receiving yards as well.
Gibbs was the only player to post over 30 fantasy points on the main slate and was one of just six players with over 25 fantasy points. His best game of the year helped the Lions get a huge divisional win on the road and move into the top spot in the NFC North at 5-1.
Gibbs’ teammate Amon-Ra St. Brown ($8,300; 28.2 FPTS) was the top-scoring wide receiver on the main slate and another key part of theHman’s “Crowning Moment.” St. Brown was one of just two receivers on the main slate with over 20 fantasy points, with Justin Jefferson ($8,500; 21.4 FPTS) putting up 21 fantasy points on the other side of the Vikings-Lions matchup in one of this entry’s other wide receiver slots. Both big-name receivers had touchdowns, and St. Brown totaled 112 receiving yards by catching all eight of his targets.
This entry opted to stack Jefferson with his QB, Sam Darnold ($6,200; 17.26 FPTS), who started slowly but worked his way up to a decent total. He finished with 259 passing yards by completing 22-of-27 pass attempts but only threw one touchdown with one interception. Overall, QB scoring was also down this week with no QB producing more than 25 fantasy points and only two expensive pay-up plays delivering more than 20.2 fantasy points. Saving salary with Darnold and still getting a top-10 QB was the right move, and at least his one passing touchdown went to Jefferson, giving theHman double points for that score.
Keys to Success
Another big game in theHman’s “Crowning Moment” was the matchup between the Browns and Bengals. After the Browns traded Amari Cooper ($5,800; 16.6 FPTS) to the Bills in the middle of last week, theHman seized the strategic advantage by playing the Bengals DST ($3,300; 15 FPTS), which was the fourth-best DST on the slate and finished with four sacks, two interceptions and a defensive touchdown.
The entry also pinpointed two players on the Browns who would take some of Cooper’s targets and included both David Njoku ($4,100; 23.6 FPTS) and Elijah Moore ($3,200; 10.10 FPTS), who stepped up and returned excellent value. Njoku was the most popular tight end in this contest with 18.5% ownership, but he was also the highest scorer at the position with a very affordable salary.
Another key to theHman’s success was avoiding a few very highly-owned players who busted on Sunday. The most-owned player in the contest was Tony Pollard ($6,300; 8.5 FPTS), who was disappointing against the Bills. The second-most popular wide receiver was JuJu Smith-Schuster ($4,000; 0.0 FPTS), who was forced to leave early with an injury and ended up putting a goose egg in 21.0% of lineups.
Instead of Pollard and Smith-Schuster, theHman included Chiefs’ RB Kareem Hunt ($6,000; 22.3 FPTS) and WR Mecole Hardman ($3,300; 12.5 FPTS). Hardman was owned in under 1% of lineups and was a huge differentiator when he scored a rushing touchdown to go with a 38-yard reception. Hunt had two touchdowns of his own in the Chiefs’ big win in San Francisco and that push from the late game was enough to propel theHman to the “Crowning Moment” of Week 7 after passing an entry from HeavenzG that had the lead but was passed just before the finish line.
The Bottom Line
Even though it wasn’t one of the highest scores of the season, theHman still claimed the top spot with this entry that blended chalky plays like Jefferson and Njoku with a few contrarian options like Hardman and Gibbs.
As you start getting your squad together for Week 8, figure out which players you think can be part of your “Crowning Moment.” After three straight weeks with 10 games on the slate, the main slate jumps up to 13 games for Week 8’s main DFS contests, which are highlighted by the NFL $2.75M Fantasy Football Millionaire [$1M to 1st]. Eight games kick off at 1:00 p.m. ET in what will be a massive early wave of fantasy football, followed by five games in the late window, headlined by a matchup between the top two picks in last year’s draft when Jayden Daniels ($7,300) and the Commanders host Caleb Williams ($6,000) and the Bears.
