NFL Week 7 Start or Sit: Tyrone Tracy Jr. or Devin Singletary

The Giants host the Eagles in Week 7 in an important NFC East matchup. On Friday, coach Brian Daboll announced that Devin Singletary ($6,200) will be able to return this week after a groin injury, but that rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr. ($6,200) will still have a large role.

The situation is definitely not ideal for fantasy owners of either running back, since it is a very undefined timeshare between the two options. Singletary was clearly the RB1 before his injury, but Daboll said of Tracy’s increased role “He’s earned it, he’s done a good job. So he’ll get plenty of playing time.”

Singletary played about 70% of snaps from Week 1 through Week 4, averaging 12.3 fantasy points per week. He had 19.8 fantasy points in Week 3, which was his best game of the season. He had enough upside to be a solid RB2 in that role, but while he was out, fifth-round rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr. looked very good.

In Week 5 with Singletary out, Tracy ran for 129 yards and 17.0 fantasy points in the Giants’ road win over the Seahawks. He also started in Week 6 against the Bengals and ran for 50 yards and a touchdown while adding six catches for 57 more yards and 22.7 fantasy points.

Tracy is a converted wide receiver, so it would make sense for him to be the third-down back with Singletary doing more of the load on early downs. His work out of the backfield last week could be a great sign of things to come.

With the uncertain timeshare, it would be great if it’s possible to wait a week before playing either running back. The Eagles have allowed an average of 111 rushing yards and 41 receiving yards per week to opposing running backs but only one running back touchdown all season, so it isn’t a great matchup for either of them. However, if you have to play one of the two, I’d lean slightly towards Tracy this week against the Eagles. If the Giants are playing from behind, his receiving and pass-blocking could keep him on the field a little more, especially as The Motor ramps back up.

Singletary is startable as a flex play if you have no other options in season-long leagues, but both are high-risk at their salaries for DFS contests, like the NFL $2.5M Fantasy Football Millionaire [$1M to 1st].

The Giants are 3.5-point underdogs against the Eagles with the over/under set at 42.5 points. Tracey is +150 to score a touchdown which are the second-shortest odds on the team behind only Malik Nabers ($7,600), who has also been cleared to return this week.
