The Los Angeles Chargers play the Arizona Cardinals on Monday night, and the matchup is certainly a juicy one for any passing attack, as the the Cardinals have allowed the second-highest Pass EPA and have been most generous in success rate by a wide margin.
Fehoko played in 51% of the snaps in Week 6, so is he a viable option?
Fehoko is 6-foot-4, 218 pounds and played his college ball at Stanford. He was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the fifth round of he 2021 NFL draft. After spending two seasons in Dallas, he joined the Chargers after Mike Williams suffered an injury.
Prior to this season, Fehoko appeared in 16 games, received six targets and converted those into four receptions for 33 yards and a touchdown.
In five games this season, Fehoko has caught three-of-seven targets for 61 yards. In Week 1, he was in on 16% of the snaps. Then he played in 41%, 72% and 21% over the next three weeks.
When everyone is healthy, Fehoko is a meh option at best, but the Chargers are dealing with multiple injuries at the wide receiver position. Ladd McConkey has a hip injury while Quentin Johnston has an ankle issue. Fehoko himself is also dealing with shoulder and groin issues so all of this could be moot, but if he’s good to go and Johnston and McConkey are out, then Fehoko would be the number two receiver behind Joshua Palmer.
There is no doubt to the identity of the Chargers, as they want to ground-and-pound while playing good defense. Only Baltimore and Pittsburgh run the ball more than Los Angeles. And while Arizona has a porous pass defense, its run defense is leaky as well.
To make matters worse, when the Chargers do go to the air, Justin Herbert has been spreading the ball around like butter on toast. And Fehoko has never been a huge earner of targets to begin with.
