Jake Paul has his most challenging and experienced fighter in front of him when he faces the icon “Iron” Mike Tyson on November 15 at AT&T Stadium. But how did Paul get to face one of boxing’s most famous and greatest champions of all time?
In the past 24 months, Paul has fought six times and is 5-1 with three knockouts. Paul suffered his first loss to Tommy Fury in February 2023 but followed it up with four wins in the past 14 months. During that period, Paul defeated two UFC veterans, Nate Diaz and Mike Perry. In 2021, Paul’s second year as a professional boxer, he knocked out former Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren and former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. Paul beat former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva by unanimous decision in 2022.
Paul’s career has consisted of big-money fights in NBA arenas around the country and bouts in smaller venues to further grow his status as a pro boxer. This upcoming fight against Tyson is a side quest for Paul. This contest won’t further his boxing career but will continue to allow him to be one of the biggest draws in the sport today. Over 280 million subscribers on Netflix will see this event. It will most likely be the most-seen combat sports broadcast of all time.
Paul has mapped out his boxing career perfectly up until this point, with each contest having a meaning and something to gain for him each time. In the last year, Paul took a step back and fought two pro boxers, Andre August and Ryan Bourland. He knocked them out in the first round, but both fighters were older and had more experience than Paul.
Although Tyson is 58, he has 56 fights in his pro career, while Paul has 11. Tyson last had a pro bout when he lost to Kevin McBride in 2005. Tyson began his career 46-0 but lost three of his last four fights. Paul is the -275 favorite, while Tyson is +210 on DraftKings Sportsbook. Paul is +110 to win by knockout, as Tyson is +340.
