49ers halfback Jordan Mason ($7,600) injured his shoulder last Thursday vs. the Seahawks, but the running back does have a chance to play in this Sunday’s Super Bowl rematch with the Chiefs, as Mason was a limited participant in practice Wednesday.
Another limited session Thursday would be a promising sign for Mason’s availability. If he plays, backfield mate Isaac Guerendo ($6,600) will be a very difficult sell for both season-long and DFS formats.
Guerendo did see 10 carries this past week and was highly efficient with the rushes, producing 99 yards on the ground, but the rookie mainly saw this opportunity because of Mason’s exit from the contest.
It was a rollercoaster of events for the back, as Mason was deemed questionable to return after injuring his shoulder in the second quarter — he surprisingly did return following halftime just to exit the game for good after his first carry of the second half. Mason logged a season-low 28% of the snaps overall while six of Guerendo’s 10 carries came in the fourth quarter sans Mason. In the first quarter when Mason was injury-free, Guerendo didn’t see a single carry.
Clearly, if Mason is a full-go this week, he should return in his usual workhorse role while Guerendo may garner a few touches behind him. Before the injury debacle in Week 6, Mason led the NFL with 21 carries per game and ranked fourth among running backs in snap share (75.3%). Guerendo had only seen 12 carries and 28 snaps total through the first five weeks.
Unless Mason ends up inactive this Sunday, Guerendo should not be considered.
