After spending eight years with the Green Bay Packers, Davante Adams was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022, reuniting him with his former college QB, Derek Carr. He also signed a five-year, $141 million contract, making him the highest-paid wide receiver in the league at the time.
In his first season with the Raiders, Adams garnered a whopping 180 targets, turning those into 100 receptions for 1,516 yards and a league-leading 14 touchdowns.
Much has happened since then, though. Carr was released and took his talents to New Orleans. Josh McDaniels was let go and Antonio Pierce became the new head coach. Tom Telesco was hired as the new general manager in January of 2024.
After rebuffing trade rumors last season, Adams has had issues this season and requested a trade, primarily to the New York Jets to be reunited with another former QB in Aaron Rodgers.
Adams has gotten his wish, as Ian Rapoport of NFL Network is reporting the Raiders have traded the six-time pro-bowler to New York in exchange for a conditional third-round pick. The pick can become a second-rounder based on performance incentives.
New York is in disarray after firing Robert Saleh and losing three straight after Monday night’s game against the Buffalo Bills. With Aaron Rodgers at 40 years old, the time is now and the hope is that the addition of Adams to an offense that has Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall will provide the spark to salvage the season and make a postseason run.
The Jets currently have the 12th-worst passing offense in terms of Total EPA.
Rodgers and Garrett Wilson have had some issues getting on the same page. Rodgers and Adams have an extensive history. It remains to be seen if the chemistry still exists, but if it does, that would likely impact the fantasy prospects for Wilson as he would now be second on the target totem pole.
