Dianna Russini joined The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz on Tuesday and you know what that means: BREAKING NEWS!!!
Yes, as much as she enjoys joining the show and loves the crew, it stresses her out because breaking news always happens and this week was no different, as Davante Adams is on to move to the New York Jets.
Yes, Aaron Rodgers is re-united with his buddy and it must feel so good after another difficult loss on Monday Night Football to the Bills. Dianna says all signs were pointing to the Jets for Adams and she was told that Woody Johnson wanted to make sure they didn’t mess this deal up. So Rodgers has another weapon he trusts to go alongside another fellow Packer in Allen Lazard.
So Stugotz wants to know — what did the Jets have to give up to get Davante? Dianna can report that the Raiders will get a third-round pick that can get bumped up to a second-round pick depending upon Davante’s performance. She says the Bills, who beat the Jets on Monday Night Football, were lurking in the picture for Adams, but obviously it did not work out for them.
Greg Cote wants to know what this move can do for the Jets, what impact will it have? She says this is a sign the Jets are all in to give Aaron Rodgers everything they can to maximize Rodgers while he is in New York. Dianna says this move, combined with new efforts to engage with Haason Reddick and his new representation, show that Woody Johnson knows this is the Jets’ window to win a championship. They’re all in.
In terms of Reddick, part of the efforts to re-engage with him have involved allowing him a short window in which to seek a potential trade.
While the Jets would obviously love to have him in the building and on the team, Dianna says you’re dealing with a situation where they started off in a bad spot because the two sides lost trust in each other. Reddick thought that the Jets were going to give him a deal he thought they had agreed upon, which the Jets disputed. Dianna says that everyone close to Reddick said he was going to die on this hill, that he is not going back to the Jets. However, Dianna points out that you don’t hire Drew Rosenhaus if you don’t want to play football. You hire Drew because he gets it done. So, Dianna says Drew is trying to figure out what the market is for Reddick if they can’t get things right with the Jets. But, Dianna says you have to look at it from the Jets’ perspective as well. What type of shape is Reddick in right now? This is a player the Jets need RIGHT NOW. How long will it take for him to get into playing shape?
But Davante Adams is in the building and we could soon be reaching a resolution in the seasonlong Reddick saga. The Jets are making moves, folks.
