Texas has been the No. 1 team in the country for the past two weeks but it is now the favorite to win the National Championship at DraftKings Sportsbook for the first time this season. Georgia was the national title favorite for most of the season until its loss to Alabama, then Ohio State became the favorite. However, after Ohio State’s loss to Oregon, Texas finally moved up to the top spot. Currently, the Longhorns are +370 to win the national title with Ohio State at +450, Georgia at +500 and Oregon at +550 behind it.
Before the season, it was the same top four teams at the top of the odds board, but Georgia was the favorite, followed by Ohio State, Oregon and Texas. Texas had the fourth-best preseason odds to win the national title at +800. Texas is undefeated and has picked up important wins over Michigan and Oklahoma, however, it is yet to face a test as serious as most other top teams have. That test is coming to Austin this weekend in the form of the Georgia Bulldogs.
Texas is currently a four-point favorite against Georgia for Saturday’s game. If the Longhorns win that, they will basically guarantee a playoff berth and a spot in the SEC Championship Game with a pretty manageable schedule for the rest of the season. So, if you believe Texas will take down Georgia on Saturday, then this will likely be the best price you could get it to win the National Championship. However, if you expect Georgia to win the game, it could be a chance to get some value on the Bulldogs to win it all.
The Longhorns definitely deserve to be the No. 1 team in the country and the favorites to win the national title at this point. They are the only team in the country that seems to not have any real weakness that can be exploited. However, this Georgia offense will be by far the best they have faced this season, so it will be a good test to see how the Texas defense can hold up against elite competition.
