Caleb Williams took his talents across the pond and led the Bears to a 19-point victory over the Jaguars, 35-16 with a performance worthy of his draft status as the No. 1 overall pick.
Not one to be captive to the moment, Stugotz has something he wants to get off his chest — for the second week in a row, Williams had a better performance than Washington’s celebrated rookie Jayden Daniels! You heard that right — Stugotz says Caleb Williams is playing better right now that Jayden Daniels. Now, Stugotz says you couldn’t say that the first few weeks of the season, but you can say it now. The Bears have a quarterback, they have receivers and even knowing Stugotz predicted the Bears to be in the Super Bowl, he wants to go on the record saying Williams looks BETTER than Daniels.
Now, that isn’t to say that Daniels had a bad game on Sunday, in fact Stugotz says he had a good game. He was fine. Which leads Jessica to ask an important question:
“Is it possible they’re both just very good?”
Hmmm….
Chris wants to know why we have to pit the two against each other, and Stugotz says we’re going to put them against each other for the remainder of time. Stugotz says he is just pointing out that for the first three weeks of the season Bears fans might have been thinking they took the wrong guy and now they may not be thinking like that anymore.
Jessica doesn’t necessarily buy that Bears fans were thinking like that. She says there might have been some grumbling about “the same old Bears” but she doesn’t think they were ready to close the book on Williams. She points out that her family of die-hard Bears fans weren’t freaking out about Caleb. Stugotz is sticking to his guns though and says when you have a QB at 1 and another team takes a QB at 2 and they get off to the start that Daniels did in Washington you might think to yourself that Caleb might still be good but you didn’t take THE guy.
Jessica closes out the segment by pointing out that the Bears upcoming schedule — at Washington, at Arizona and home vs. New England — should give Caleb the chance to look pretty good. But games against the Packers, Vikings and at the Lions could bring him back down to Earth. And that’s just the ups and downs of living with a rookie QB under center.
